Computerized Screening Inc.’s Health Station Saves Employee’s Life At Cal-Neva Resort & Spa
Sparks, NV January 12 2004–Computerized Screening Inc.’s (CSI) Health Station, the leading self-health prevention resource, has been credited with saving the life of Marco Razo, 31, a technician at the Cal-Neva Resort & Spa. Razo, a body builder and athlete, complained to his supervisor, Mike Seevers, of dizziness and some chest pain upon his arrival at work. Seevers suggested Razo test his blood pressure and heart rate for potential problems, so he brought him to the CSI Health Station โ” a self-health prevention system that was on the premises and had been part of Cal-Neva’s Corporate Wellness Program for four years. Designed to measure an individual’s vital signs, the Health Station indicated that although his blood pressure was within the normal range at 118/87, however the highly accurate system detected a very high pulse rate of 194. This critical level prompted Seevers to contact Rick Talbot, Director of Safety & Security. Talbot recognized the need for action and summoned paramedics, as medical attention is required when pulse rates escalate to such a degree.
Razo’s pain had increased by the time paramedics arrived and Talbot informed them that the Health Station detected Razo’s dangerously high pulse. Testing vitals with the Health Station allowed Razo to be brought directly to the hospital, instead of having these tests conducted first on-site. The time that was saved was critical, as Razo’s pulse rate escalated to an even higher level of 215, en route to the hospital. Had paramedics not been made aware of the seriousness of Razo’s condition, there could have been deadly repercussions. Fortunately, doctors were able to save Razo’s life by administering medication which brought Razo’s pulse and blood pressure to within safe ranges. Razo is now healthy and back at work and he is also on a regular self-health monitoring regimen, using the Health Station to monitor his vital signs.
โI am very thankful that my workplace has a CSI Health Station as part of its wellness program,โ says Marco Razo, a technician at Cal-Neva resort and user of the Health Station. โI firmly believe that it saved my life. The Health Station has helped my coworkers and I practice better self-health maintenance, as I now check my blood pressure and pulse rate every day.โ
When informing CSI that the Health Station saved one of his employees’ lives, Rick Talbot, Director of Safety & Security at Cal-Neva Resort said, โI hope other resorts and companies in general will consider providing a Health Station for their employees. It’s an invaluable tool that has obviously proven its worth.โ
โWe are extremely pleased to learn that Marco Razo is alive and is practicing self-health maintenance,โ says Bob Sullivan, Executive Vice President of CSI. โWe encourage corporations to help employees monitor their health by instituting screening and testing resources that will help detect potential risks before a preventable tragedy occurs.โ
The CSI Health Station โ” a digital, freestanding kiosk featuring a complete array of health screening tools and preventive education resources โ” accurately measures blood pressure, heart rate, and weight as well as other vital signs, such as pulse oximetery, spirometry and temperature. The system’s patented blood pressure measurement technology is renowned as the most accurate, non-invasive, automated methodology in existence. It utilizes all three of the accepted non-invasive measurement techniques; auscultatory (sound), oscillometric (pressure) and pattern identification and analyzes 6,500 samples to determine a single blood pressure result.
Hundreds of CSI Health Systems are a fixture in the Corporate Wellness programs in companies nationwide, including enterprises such as, Hewlett-Packard, Boeing, Colgate-Palmolive, American Honda, Apple Computer Inc., Blue Cross-Blue Shield, Maniilaq Association (AK), Maxwell House, Becton Dickinson, Pharmacia, Astra-Zeneca, Dupont, Kaiser Permanente and Raytheon. Employees of these corporations use the Health Stations’ vast array of self-health maintenance resources to measure blood pressure, heart rate, weight, conduct BMI and fitness evaluations and learn about self-health maintenance from the system’s drug encyclopedia, medication compatibility database and extensive library of health education videos.
